Being consistent with your email marketing is key.

Craft a ‘plan of action’ and stick to it: how many emails will you send this month/week?

What will they be about? 

Try to be as helpful as possible in your emails: don’t just use email to continuously pitch your products.

And most of all, don’t annoy people! If you find that you’re emailing too much, cut the frequency a little.

Those are the bare minimum things you should look for. Email marketing platforms like ConvertKit do a great job at this and are cheap to get started with. 

However, if you need more ‘power’ under the hood, there are many options you can choose from (ActiveCampaign, which is what I use for my main business for example). 

Analyze the list above and note down pros and cons of each tool you are considering.

That’s why they usually need a few more features and functionalities in their email marketing service compared to entry-level tools.

For small businesses, I 100% recommend ActiveCampaign. I use it on a daily basis and its set of capabilities has never let me down.

What email marketing services allow purchased lists?

The honest answer? I am not entirely sure. Some companies out there definitely allow purchased lists, but this is something I’ve never tried before.

And most of all, it’s something I definitely do not recommend.

Purchasing a list is like having a list of hundreds (or possibly thousands) of contacts who don’t know who you are, have never interacted with you on or off-line and probably couldn’t care less about your emails to them. 

Building a list that’s engaged and made up of loyal fans that really want to hear from you and appreciate what you share and teach is a million times better. 

And the results you’ll get from it in terms of sales won’t be remotely comparable. Trust me on that.
