That was the start of his hustling lifestyle. He went on to switch from selling cherry tomatoes to selling lemonade with sugar.

Six years old Taino recognized that it was hard selling people cherry tomatoes because there was no demand for the product.

When he started selling lemonade with sugar, Taino made $2.5 for the same time he would spend to sell 25 cents of cherry tomatoes.

Absolutely, that was a great experience for Tai Lopez. He could have stuck to selling cherry tomatoes and continued wasting time to sell 25 cents of tomatoes, but taking the risk was what made selling easier for him.

Shortly after, he received a box containing eleven books (including “The Story of Civilization” by Will and Ariel Durant”) with encouragement to start by reading those books.

That was the beginning of Tai Lopez’s love for books. His grandfather fuelled his love for reading books. 

Of course, that led to his “one book a day” philosophy that has already become a habit.

With the hope of meeting the people that will lead him to the answers on living the good life, Tai Lopez journeyed to 51 countries.

He traveled to Argentina, Australia, South America, New Zealand, Ireland, and many other countries. 

His goal was to read a book and visit the author in person. So, he ended up visiting 51 countries.

He spent two years and a half with the Amish, in a community where there was no electricity.

Obviously, he was literally doing all he can to live a healthy and happy life. Interestingly, he also visited Joel Salatin. He spent two years on his popular sustainable farm in Swoope, Virginia.

He visited many other interesting places living a healthy and happy lifestyle.

However, in Tai Lopez’s words, he forgot about the money.

I forgot about the money. That’s one of the things, and so eventually, I ran out of money.

He had no option than to go back home and stay with his mom. That could’ve been embarrassing, after visiting 51 countries and then coming back empty-handed.

Like I said earlier, he had no option.

I had to do the thing nobody wants to do, I had to call my mom and be like, “Mom, I know I’m an adult, but I don’t have any money. Do you mind if I come to stay at home until I get back on my feet?”

Obviously, his mom also did what any mom would do. Of course, she said yes.

However, the night was self-reflection for him. 

So I remember laying there at night, like: “Did I mess up? Did I miss out on the good life? Here I am, I have no college degree. My skills? I could milk a cow with the Amish.” That wasn’t a very marketable skill. I remember I had like $47 in my bank account.

The next few days saw Tai Lopez asking around for help on how to make money. His uncle gave him advice that would then lead him to take smart actions:

You know what, Tai, you need somebody who is going to show you how to make money.

This time around, instead of Tai traveling around, he had only $40 to make do-with. He walked into the kitchen and found the Yellow Pages.

He flipped through the Yellow Pages to the finance section. And there lies his would-be mentor; Mike Stainback who headed a local insurance firm.

Mike had his advertisement on a full-page on Yellow Pages. So. Tai concluded that Mike must know a lot about making money.

The Start of His Million Dollar Empire

Tai Lopez’s journey to building his wealth officially began when he left to meet Mike Stainback. He didn’t even have a suit, he picked a big suit in the closet.

When Tai Lopez got to Mike’s office, he offered to work for him for free while Mike would teach him all he knows about making money.

Sounds like a good deal. Besides, Mike has always wanted to pass on his knowledge to someone for over 20 years.

And there walked an eager man wanting to work for free in order to learn from him.

No doubt, it was a done deal. Tai Lopez got to learn cold calling and how to sell from Mike. He furthered his learning by engaging in self-education. 

He learned how to use Google AdWords to generate leads for businesses. At the time, Google Adwords was pretty much new technology but contributed greatly to building Tai’s wealth.

Upon noticing Tai’s closing skills, Mike linked him up with the regional head of GE Capital, where he became a certified financial planner.

Shortly after, he ended up becoming one of the top salespeople at GE Capital.

But something looks shady about his dating sites.

Although Tai Lopez is known to have run a fleet of dating sites, it was not stated on his previous projects and work experience on LinkedIn.

Likewise, his experience in running a fleet of dating sites was not also listed on his personal site.

Needless to say, it was hard fishing out his fleet of dating sites since there was no official record of the sites on Tai Lopez’s personal site and portfolio.

Besides, they are inactive and now spam sites. He now makes most of his money from running online courses.

Through Mentor Box, he and his partner plan to help others develop their wealth-building skills by reading.

The company works on a subscription model, customers pay a monthly fee and are sent a new book every month.

Alongside the book, customers also get audiobook lessons and nuggets, video workshops, member discussions, and booklets.

As far as we know, Tai Lopez owns 50% of the company, as revealed by Tai Lopez on one of his Livestream YouTube videos in 2017.

Then, he also claimed that the company was already at the $50,000 a day mark. If that claim is true, then that means the company was making $1.5 million monthly in 2017.

Presently, there’s no hint on what the company is presently worth or makes. However, it’s certain he earns a few million per year from the business.

So, MentorBox is certainly one of his active money makers. 

4. Affiliate Marketing

This is one of the ways Tai monetizes his youtube account. He has over a million followers and that’s a good audience to monetize.

Through his book reviews and recommendations on his YouTube videos, Tai Lopez places some amazon affiliate links in the description of his videos.

Compared to other means he makes his money, this isn’t a big hit or a million-dollar business for him. Besides, Amazon offers a low commission rate for books; 4% for digital books, and 4.5% for physical books.

However, he does recommend other tools and products on his YouTube channel, which he also uses affiliate links.

No doubt, this is also a small commission compared to what he earns from his online courses and other businesses.

However, this can make a modest add-up to his money-making portfolios.

5. YouTube ads

Aside from affiliate marketing, the traditional way of monetizing your YouTube videos is via YouTube ads.

YouTube would automatically place ads on your videos for your audience to see before watching the video.

This can be a nice add up to his net worth. According to a YouTube revenue calculator, it gives an estimate of $651, 000, as the total amount Tai Lopez has earned so far from YouTube ads.

That’s just an estimate, it could be less than that or even more than that.

But in the end, it’s a nice income stream for Tai Lopez.

6. Podcast Sponsors

“The Tai Lopez Show” is a podcast that Tai started in 2014. And ever since, he has consistently pumped out hundreds of episodes every year.

Also, looking at the blog section of the site, it was last updated on January 25, 2018. And that’s two years ago, which is a pointer that the information on the page might not be valid.

Besides, it was hard locating a link pointing to a consulting page, which could mean he does little or no consulting again.

Instead, his online courses have been his focus. And the closest I found is his Accelerator program that costs $997.

On his Accelerator program sales page, Tai claims that he charges $10,000 per hour or $1,000,000 per year for his consulting services.

Obviously, that is different from what was displayed on his old fashioned consulting sales page. And that means his consulting sales page is of no use again as said earlier on.

However, for his high-priced consulting service, there’s no detail or page showing his service and his clients (if any).

8. Sleep Glasses

Lastly, Tai Lopez has an eCommerce store where he sells sleep glasses. He sells his inventories through Amazon.

This business is a partnership with James Swanwick of Swanwick Sleep. 

On one of his podcast episodes, Tai Lopez disclosed that Swanwick Sleep was on the path of making $2 million per year.

That was 2017. No recent data to back how much the business makes presently. Also, the $2 million is the revenue and there’s no data to know the profit made.

As it is a partnership, the profit will still be divided. In essence, this makes a little add up to his net worth.
